The name "phytotherapy" comes from "phyton" - plant and "therapy" - therapy (from Greek). It represents an alternative method of treatment based on the healing properties of herbs, which is considered well tolerated and without serious side effects, while highly efficient.
Globally known about 500 000 plant species, but only about 5% of them have been studied as a pharmacologically active substances. This shows only one - there is a huge reserve of yet unstudied species and opportunities to discover new medicinal plants.
